Right track/wrong track? Look at who’s emulating the US
January 9th, 2006I hope it’s still the case that imitation is still the sincerest form of flattery. Otherwise, 1) this blog post is going nowhere fast, and 2) our best shot at improving our international relations just went down the tubes.
Quick on the heels of Syria’s most flattering witch hunt of a traitor in their midst, comes news that China wants to be like us, too:
China orders fast reporting of unrest, crises: “The plan divides natural disasters, public health and environmental crises and threats to social stability into four colour-coded categories and sets different broad responses from local and central authorities to each.”

You gotta love our Homeland Security Advisory System.
Totalitarian state shrilly proclaiming its critics as traitors? Check. Totalitarian state nurturing a culture of fear in its citizens through a simplistic and silly color-coded scale to rate current “danger”? Check. I’d ask what’s next on the list, but it’s more fun when it’s a surprise.
