RIAA worthless and incompetent, part 57,432

February 4th, 2006

Survey says: music costs too much, and it sucks: “While the music industry bangs the price increase drums, indicators from just about everywhere are telling them to leave it alone.”

(Via Ars Technica.)

It’s somewhat surprising to me that this industry group still receives any membership dues at all. I guess it’s not that surprising; it just means that the industry players are still headed by greedy bastards who want nothing but to continue to rape artists and cheat consumers for everything they’re worth.

Oh well, here’s the important stuff: 75% of the consumers surveyed say that music is generally priced too high. 71% say that music download prices are generally priced correctly. The RIAA (their biggest members) is fighting with Apple to move up the price beyond 99 cents. Remember that Apple is already paying for all of the costs of storage, distribution, and R&D in this. The RIAA members essentially make little but pure profit from the music sales online. One has to figure that any promotion they do for the artist they would have already done for the CD sales; therefore the online music sales are just gravy.

And yet, somehow they still want more. Pigs at the trough, that’s all it is.
